Texas Tech – Day 4…

There was always one word that I tried to NEVER mention in my years of being a Christian: Evangelism. Everything about it is outside my comfort zone. And of course, that is what my team was assigned to do.

We broke up in three teams of three and set out for the huts. With Daniel and Elise by my side, we stopped at a middle-aged woman’s house. She was very receptive towards us. She showed us a sore on her two-year old’s head, that was being eaten by gnats and flies . All our hearts broke and we decided to do everything we could to help.

Then, our morning took a turn for the strange side. We saw a woman, washing her clothes and wanted to talk with her. She started to sing, not knowing what she was saying. Our translator informed us that she was singing a voodoo song and is a witch doctor. My eyes immediately widened and curiosity arose inside me. She didn’t want to speak with us, but knowing us, we weren’t willing to back down.

We told her the story of Paul and started to move on to the next hut. She proceeded to sing a curse over us, but we will not be shaken by satan. We talked to another witch doctor and headed back for lunch. The Lord is shaking foundations here in the Mole. The teens in the conference are so willing to ask questions and be vulnerable with us. With each passing day, my team begins to transform into the face of Jesus. Everyone continues to love each other and show that love to the beautiful natives here. My heart is falling more and more in love with the people, place and love that Haitians show me. God is so good and I am blessed beyond measure. We love y’all and shout out from Haiti!

  1. Paul writes in Ephesians 6

13Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.d 16In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.e 17Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. (NLT)

    To Steph, we miss you!

    Prayers for everyone!

  2. I love the post Sarah. Getting outside the box is a great thing. God is providing you many different ways to show and share your faith to these beautiful people of Haiti. Satan will not win…God is on your side. I love all the pictures. Love to all of you!

  3. Ok, first of all, who do I have to bribe to find out y’all have a blog? I’ve been thinking about y’all all week! I am so encouraged by your stories and what I can hear God doing behind each one of them. I remember my first international experience in India and the work Jesus was doing in my life, so I couldn’t be more thrilled for all of you! I wanted to encourage y’all after reading your posts that some of you are seeing and will see visible and immediate effects of the presence of Christ in you while in Haiti. Awesome! Thank God for these every chance you get! Let me encourage you with the truth that so much of what He is doing through you is visible and immediate, but infinitely more is invisible, and ALL of it is eternal! I’m proud to be a member of His body with each of you (wish i could hold those children with you). I have been praying for y’all all week but hearing from you has encouraged me to pray all the more. Tell josh my bald bearded brother he looks great, tell Emily to quit hiding from the camera and get in some pictures because I miss her face, and yes Al, I miss yours too 😉 I love y’all.

  4. Abbey — just a short note to say we are so very glad to see the way God is working through you and your team from Tech. You are all in our prayers as you seek to spread Jesus’ love. God bless you all. We love you much, Gran and Pepaw

  5. Beautiful young people…your faces are glowing. Know that the seeds that you sow will take root in God’s time. Know that the plants that you water will grow. Know that the love that you share will make a difference. You are the feet and hands of God on earth and He is embracing your hearts and holding them close to His. Hold tight to your faith and know that His will will be done in His time. I send love and prayers for each of you. You all rock!!!!

  6. Sweet Abbey we love the pictures of you and those precious babies! We can’t wait to hear about the many lives that are being touched by God through your team as those experiences are making everlasting prints on your hearts! So many are praying for the whole team this week. Much love to you Abbey and the whole Texas Tech team! We can’t wait to see you! Love you bunches, mom dad and Cole
