The Face of the Orphanage…

The Face of the Orphanage – Fedna

So I wanted to start off this year of “October is for Orphans” prayer circles with someone who I consider to be the face of the Mole orphanage – Fedna. I think she’s the face of the place! Her smiling face along with her story really answer the questions of “Why do we do what we do?” and “Is it really worth it?” Fedna is so full of joy and looking at Fedna’s truly contagious smile, you know it’s definitely worth it. She has completely transformed since the time I first saw her back in 2011 and it’s a testament to God and the great work He’s doing through NWHCM. Fedna is a special needs child originally from the Mole, a place (like much of Haiti) that’s not really understanding or caring for those with special needs. Fedna was in an abusive situation and the perception was that she couldn’t really understand what was happening to her.

In God’s divine plan, He brought her to live at the NWHCM orphanage in the Mole. And despite past abuse and neglect, Fedna has become a shining beacon of hope and joy to her brothers and sisters in the orphanage. The other kids all look up to her as she’s the oldest, and even though she has special needs they wholeheartedly accept her as family. It reminds me of these verses of God’s faithfulness and provision in our lives.

Psalm 68:5-6 –
“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land

Matthew 6:31-32 –
“Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.”

Matthew 7:11 –
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”

Though Fedna’s earthly family could not care for her, the Lord has provided and placed beautiful, joyful Fedna in a family that will love and support her at NWHCM with all her brothers and sisters in the orphanage, the wonderful orphanage mamas, the other mission staff, and all those who come visit on mission trips. He has provided in miraculous ways and answered so many prayers to bring Fedna to the NWHCM family in the Mole. However, I don’t think He’s done working yet! I’m asking you to pray for Fedna today. To keep her on your heart and mind and ask God to continue to provide for her and give her abundant life and love. God is willing and capable of giving us all that we need and doing even more than we can imagine if we will just ask it of Him. I’m asking that we pray and ask God to provide on Fedna’s behalf. I pray that sponsors will step forward to join Fedna’s family of support at NWHCM and be a part of her life to see what God has in store for her. I know it’s going to be great things! Fedna still needs 4 sponsors to join her family tree! Be praying for Fedna’s sponsors and also that you will keep your heart open to these kids this month as we pray circles around each of the kids in the Mole orphanage. Be praying that you will be open to God’s calling for you to sponsor one of these kids and partner with NWHCM in becoming a family of love and support.
Thanks again for joining me in praying circles around these precious kids and for reading my blog posts!

And if you want to be a part of Fedna’s family tree you can commit to sponsor her here:
