Texas Tech & Pv Teens – in 2014 – Monday

FROM PV TEENS….

Hey, this is KJ from Pleasant Valley! Being here in Haiti is something that has changed my life, even though it’s only been 5 days. Words and pictures don’t do justice to how beautiful it is here and how amazing the people are here.

Over the four days we have been here we have done so many exciting things. We went to a small fishing village and did our Freedom Drama. We have spent hours playing with the beautiful orphans living near us. We went to the beach and took some crazy pictures with some friends. We also are keeping track of how many times people spill on themselves, Paul is at 22 and I am at 6.

We also went to a small village named Karnage for church and was able to witness a girl accept Jesus! This last day, the 17th of March, was incredible! We started our day out walking house-to-house learning more about the people in the Mole. We were learning their needs and finding out more about their faith. As soon as we were done with that we went to the school and did the Freedom Drama for all the kids in school. This usually wouldn’t be a big deal, but we have never been allowed in the schools in the past. Our team is the first team ever to be able to do something like that.

Later in the day we started a conference for the Middle School aged kids, while the Texas Tech team did one with the older teenagers. Though it didn’t go as planned for the boys I know God will use it for the better. I can’t wait to see how God will change us all in the last few days we have left. Coming in I had no idea what to expect but half way through, I don’t know if I even want to leave. God has been amazing here and I know that He will show Himself even more in the next few days.

I love you all who are willing to pray for us! Thank you so much! I miss you all, too! Cool. Cool, Cool, Cool (of course Jordan told me to say this).

FROM TEXAS TECH TEAM….

WE ARE HERE WE ARE HERE!! Our journey yesterday was grueling to say the least but it was not without great joy. Our bus broke down about 3 hours into the bus drive and left us stranded in a roadside village. Our team was hesitant to leave the bus while it was being repaired but we decided to meet the crowd that had somehow formed around our bus. We received quizzical looks and many shy faces as we began to greet the people of the village, naturally gravitating toward the kids. We tried to figure out a game we could play with all the kids without the language barrier, so we settled on a very chaotic game of tag.

The kids led us to a wooded area where we ran and chased the kids until our out-of-shape selves could chase no longer. We began to sit in the mud and the kids would rotate between the team members they had attached themselves to and their new favorites. The girls were fascinated with our hair and insisted on braiding and unbraiding for an hour, I lovingly got my hair braided about 13 times.

Then began the games, chanting and clapping in a circle (similar to our “little Sally Walker”). This entranced the rest of the villagers, they loved watching us “blanc” folk trying to do their dances, especially the boys. It was then time for us to leave our new friends. I think God had our bus break down for a reason, we needed it. We needed the joy that radiated from the children’s faces as we chased them through the jungle. It made the rest of the journey just a little less brutal.

Today was our first full day in the Mole! It began with us receiving a million little hugs and kisses from bright and shiny little faces at the Orphanage and my heart could not be more full. The first one to run to me was Be-Be, the sweet little girl I had taken to the orphanage just 2 short years ago. I’m sure she didn’t recognize me, but I wanted to explode with joy as she held my face in her hands. I saw Jesus in those sweet little eyes.

We had the morning to relax and gather our thoughts and materials for the rest of the day, so we played with the kids and visited the beach, which was sensationally beautiful! Our team is bonding and creating relationships with the children and the translators we will be working with on this trip.

This afternoon we had a youth conference with the teens of the Mole. Each day we’re talking about an aspect of who God is and splitting into girls and boys to talk about our lives and things we’re going through. This was fantastic. Its one thing to play with the babies all day, but to be able to have conversations with girls our age in Haiti is life-changing, and it helps them to know that we struggle with the same issues that they do. It’s so amazing to see first year trippers break out and come into what the Lord has laid on their hearts.

I’m in love with this place, the people, the faces, all of it. It is such a blessing to be able to see what the Lord is already doing here and getting to be a part of it.

Missing my family and my wonderful Fiancé, love y’all

Shannon Tumy

P.S.  … Dillon Loves his momma.

I don’t know many of you but already consider you all to be my friends because you took off a week of “normal” life and ended up in the town of Mole St. Nicholas as you followed God’s calling for you. This people of this town have captured my heart and I am confident that if they haven’t captured yours yet they will by the time you leave.

Don’t stop loving, hugging, playing, talking, caring, or encouraging the people you encounter. Also, please give Emily a HUGE hug for me!

  9. Dear Emily, Hey girl! I hope that you made it to the Mole just fine eand you are already experiencing God’s presence. I cannot wait to hear about the bus ride! I am so happy that you are able to be in Haiti once again, but I must admit, I’m pretty jealous! I ask that you please give Manu and Presley a giant hug from me along with all of the other beautiful people of the Mole. I hope you are able to get the chance to see and talk to Anafenda again. I know she would absolutely love it. Em, I cannot express how proud I am to call you one of my best friends and a sister in Christ. You have grown so much in your faith and have gained so much wisdom throughout all if your trials and triumphs. I speak for myself and many others when I say that you are an excellent role model to many. God has such amazing plans in store for you and this second trip to Haiti is just one of many. With that being said, use this opportunity to show the Haitians His love and compassion not only through your words, but through your actions. I hope you have a wonderful week and I cannot wait to hear all about it when you get home! I love you Emmy.

  18. Ashlyn,
I miss talking to you but so glad you are doing the Lord’s work! I love the pictures! You are in your element! Tell Shannon hello. I am praying for you both and the entire Tech Team. My BSF group is praying for you this week! We studied Matthew 22 tonight and how Jesus taught about the greatest commandment “To love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind” and the second is like unto it “Love your neighbor as yourself”. I am so proud of how you are following these commandments to Love God first and then love your neighbors in Haiti. Can’t wait to talk when you get back and see what God teaches you there. Remember to take those times to be still before the Lord and to listen to His voice.

    I love you!
    Madre

  19. So glad to see you made it and God is busy using each of you. Love and prayers…Tim,Lea Ann, and Dru Lust.

  21. God is so good ~ what a wonderful opportunity to be able to minister in the government school there. It has been so exciting to see what God is doing through you all as you minister this week! We continue to lift you up in prayer throughout each day ~ God bless you and keep you in his care.
    Love from the Longleys
P.S Caleb we haven’t seen much of you the past couple days 🙂

  22. KJ,
It was so good to hear your words, to hear your heart. We are thrilled that you were all able to take this powerful drama to the school where the Holy Spirit is working even now on the students’ hearts. And then…to see someone come to Christ!!!…there is nothing more precious than that. We love you! We love seeing all of you serve our Lord! Listen for the voice of the Holy Spirit to guide your every step and then dare to follow!

    Daddy and Mama

  23. PV team. What a glorious day you had yesterday. Yep it’s early morning again. (Emilee knows what I mean) Such an awesome God we serve that he would have you there and prepare you “for such a time as this” Esther 4:14. Our omniscient God is amazing and timing is all his and you are blessed to be a part of his plan. How incredible it was that he arranged for you to present the gospel message in a government school. That is how big our God is. I must comment on the pictures and events from the past couple days and draw on the parallels of the life of Paul, how his life of missionary work to spread God’s gospel was carried out by his own two feet and small boats traveling over open waters, in comparison to your journey of traveling on foot to the villages near by and by small boats to carry the message of God. How truly amazing is your adventure at this time of serving God’s purpose in the mission field. We are praying for strength and endurance to run the good race and finish strong.

You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Sweet Pea we love you! We are so proud of you!

    God bless all of you.

    Dad

  24. This morning as I sit enjoying your photos again and reading the comments from family and friends, God’s abundance overwhelms me. Not only are you all there in ministry, reaching out, touching lives in Haiti, but you are also doing the same for those of us here at home. What a wonderful God.

    Blessings to you all.

    YaYa

  25. Dillon,
Good to see you in the pictures. Hope it is all that you thought it would be and more. God always has a plan that might not be what we thought, but one that always works for a reason. Thanks for the PS by the way. Keep posting the pics. Good luck Tech Wesley group and prayer up the for the other group that is there also and travels home.

    Love,
    Mom

  26. What an amazing adventure you all are having, not very many young people are giving an opportunity to see the Holy Spirit move and work in such a real way! My prayer is that you never forget that excitement, the overwhelming joy of watching someone become your brother or sister, to see it all come together, to watch them except Grace for the first time. I pray that you are taking lots of mental pictures, and enjoying this mountain top experience to full capacity!

KJ we are so proud of you, of the young man you are and how your love for Jesus spills out into everything you do. Your heart for people and to follow Jesus brings tears to my eyes. This is where I would like to insert all kinds of mushy stuff to embarrass you… but take note that I am not! We love you, and can’t wait to hear all about your adventures in person! Stay strong kid, and keep your focus on the Kingdom!

Blessings, Aunt Karisa, Uncle Zach, Danny and Hope!

  32. Katie J. it takes my breath to think of the things you get to be involved in. You & your friends are on an amazing journey, one I’m proud of each of you for doing. I try imagining through your eyes the things you’re seeing, the hope in the childrens’ eyes, the angst, perhaps even dispair in others eyes. I know you & your group are delivering the message that Christ stands on authority & that His authority delivers a hope no other entity can deliver. I pray for those you are ministering to, as well as you & your group. God bless each of you…
