Happy Easter – Hopton Group

Hello readers, this is DJ. Today was a pretty special day. It was Easter Sunday.

We all set our alarms at 4:30 in the Morning (5:30 EST) since church was starting a little earlier at 5:00. Since it was Easter, the adult service mostly consisted of the preacher and groups of adults singing well-known hymns in creole. About an hour within, the preacher had dismissed the children to children’s church, which we were in charge of.

For Children’s Church, Ryan and Kenson preached to the children and Hope and Pierre had read a book about Easter to the children. Then we started the craft. The craft was a foam reef with the whole timeline of Jesus, From Jesus arriving to Jerusalem with the Donkey, to Jesus ascending to Heaven. We had to help the kids out with it, since many of them put things in the wrong place.

About an hour later, the parents came into the children’s church and the ladies served them up Hot Chocolate and the Peanut Butter Sandwiches that we had made Saturday afternoon. All of us helped giving the food to these families. Seeing their reactions to us giving them their food was really powerful, seeing these people who probably hadn’t eaten in days finally getting food was sadly similar to some of the kids my mother and I see in Bethel nearly everyday.

Church had ended at around 8:00ish, and we had freetime, until around 10ish, were had taken a motorboat to the fishing village of Presco (was practically on the other side of Haiti.) We took our leftover peanut butter sandwiches and gave it to these people. The families were very thankful for this, as they had told us that without us, they probably wouldn’t have been able to find food. We stayed there for about 45 Minutes and then we had went back to The Mole.

Again, we had free time until 6 A Clock. Which we went the Beach that we had went to on Friday. We had a Hotdog roast, while Jody had played music like “Love Shack” by The B-52s and “Thriller” by Michael Jackson. There we had our final devotion in The Mole, We sung the song “Oceans” by Hillsong United, right by the Ocean. The Devotion was taught by Jody and was about how not reaching out to people is Detrimental as she had told us of the unfortunate circumstances of Jose’s sister and how she wished that she would have kept on praying reaching out for her. Now were back to the mole as we are preparing our trip to St. Louis Du Nord.

Wow. Yet again, another crazy day. Oh, by the way, Happy Easter, or as the Haitians say “Boun Fet Pak.” We are forever grateful to serve a risen Jesus that is Coming back again. Today we remained persistent, even though we were super tired. We had sunrise service this morning. All though there was a language barrier, the love of Jesus shined brighter than any light I’ve ever seen. One of our goals on this trip is to have the Haitians call us “Zanmni,” which means friend rather that the “white person.”

As a few of us from the team took some of the younger kids to the beach, we were asking the kids if we were their friends, and there wasn’t one “no.” Later on in the day, we were able to listen the Lord speak through Jody to us. We talked about, when we go home, there is always someone in need, we just forget about them.

In the same way at the pool of Bethesda, the man lay paralyzed and couldn’t do anything about it. The men standing near him just had to turn around. Jesus healed the man and told him to pick up his mat and walk. In the same way, when we come home, we are called to help others pick up their mat and to pick up our own as well.

Tomorrow, we leave for St. Louis Du. Nord, and we will get the chance to pour Jesus love into even more Haitians. We are so thankful for your prayers. We love you and make sure you thank God tonight that you serve a risen Savior. Boun Fet Pak!
