WE GOT OUR BAGS!!!!! It was like Christmas morning last night! So many fans and snacks we don’t know what to do with ourselves. We got all but one big bag of donations but it should be in this evening so major prayer answered!! It was a weird feeling having everything we thought we needed, but realized we could have gotten by fine without.
This morning Lydia led morning devotionals before breakfast. I talked about how we need to focus on prayer when we feel like something goes wrong or doesn’t go as planned. We then ate some breakfast and headed to the medical clinic all morning. While there Charie worked in the pharmacy and Leigh floated in between there and waiting room management. I think Charie was in heaven around all of the meds, she is definitely planning to work in the pharmacy more this week with her free time.
Lydia used Qtips and hydrogen peroxide to clean all the patients ears and loved it! Sadly only a few people had major earwax. Surprisingly I thoroughly enjoy cleaning out ears. I can really relate to the ones with a lot of earwax. I also got a chance to clean my ears and Liz’s who allowed me to practice my skills on. I may have hit her brain but she’s alright now. I (Liz) started out in the waiting room but felt sick half way through so used one of the great fans to chill in the room. Before that though I was able to paint a whole lot of toes and pass out blow pops.
We then had a yummy lunch of spicy Haitian spaghetti. Right after Kenson (who speaks 5 languages) and Lauren taught us in our first Creole lesson. We (Lydia and Liz) rocked the lesson and progressed much faster than the old dogs who can’t learn new tricks (Leigh Anne and Charie). I wish I (Lydia) could minor in creole next year, but unfortunately they don’t offer it. Jezi renmen ou 😉
Right after we went to town to try out our new language proficiency. We weren’t so hot at it without our cheat sheet but Kenson translated. We were inviting more gals to our Pre-Teen Bible Study for the next three days that we are teaching. The town was amazing to walk around. It blows my mind to see how they live but how beautiful it is to see.
We played with the orphans when we got back then all of our group headed to Susan’s Special Needs class where we worked with Fedna, Gigi, and Claude. Fedna is one of the girls from the mission’s orphanage, she is about 13 years old. Gigi is mama Gigi’s daughter who lives here on the mole campus, she’s about 16 years old. Claude is one of the children from the community, his mom brings him to class while she attends the sewing class next door. He is about 6 years old and cute as can be. We get to work with them again tomorrow during class. After class we headed to dinner and ate some amazing peanut butter no bake cookies!
I’m (Liz) definitely missing family but the staff and volunteers here at the Mole are truly seeming like a family. We are hoping the pre-teen bible study goes as planned and has an impact on the girls who are coming. Another side note, Leigh Anne and Charie are still burnt to a crisp and Liz has too many bug bites to count.
