Texas Tech 2019 – Days 1 & 2…

Hey!!  It’s Trey and Breeley – and we are apart of the Texas Tech Wesley team!

It has been such an amazing experience so far in Haiti! We arrived in Haiti yesterday and we have been very busy! Today Breeley started out painting the girl’s room at the orphanage and while we would wait for it to dry, we got to hang out with the kids. While we were hanging out at the orphanage, there was a girl named Mirlene who grabbed me and from then on she has hardly left my side. The girls love singing and dancing to The Greatest Showman and playing games outside.

Trey’s group took a 20-minute boat ride to Preskul, and did a Vacation Bible School there. They enjoyed getting to hang out and spend time coloring with the kids from the village. We finished with soccer and the kids loved it!

After both groups got back we led a VBS with about 100 kids from the town and The Mole. We had crafts, games, skits, and a lesson and the kids enjoyed every minute of it. After VBS, Breeley went to the swimming pool and led swimming lessons with 5 boys from our on-campus orphanage. The boys loved it and caught on very quickly!

After the boys that learned to swim today left, we enjoyed some time with our team and played in the pool until dinner time. Trey went to the shakoon and played with the orphan kids. They love the time they get with us and never want it to end. We ended the night enjoying a Haitian meal and talking in our small groups after hearing a devotion from Tom, a board member who is visiting while our team is here to help out. Tomorrow we will be working in the clinic, going to Karnage and continuing the painting for the girl’s room. We can’t wait to see how the rest of the week goes as well as see the relationships that are built while we are here.

HI! This is Kayti, I went to the clinic this morning while the others did the painting and went to Preskul. It was kinda slow today since it is not normally open on Mondays but there was still a few people that came and we were able to help them. A little boy came in who had cut his finger really bad so we cleaned it up really good then put a bandage on it. After that, a bag of fruit snacks made it all better. I also cleaned some of their ears and painted nails while they were waiting to be seen by the nurse. So far Haiti has been great! Travel has been really smooth and hopefully the last 5 bags (mine and 4 supply suitcase) get here sooner rather than later!

P.S. Caleb is still alive and feeling a lot better.

PLEASE leave comments! Teams absolutely love to hear from friends & family! Comments are read every night at dinner. It’s like getting mail at camp! 🙂

Also..the pics with Al are of the kids acting out Peter walking on the water to Jesus! I love it when the Bible comes alive! 🙂

  7. Really made my day to see the joy in the faces of the children (and our missionaries). Each moment of joy shared is a gift! Also got a kick out of the video of the conversation with the goats! Hey… goats need missionaries too. :)) Keep shining your light!

Also Al-our guy Korprew was suspended today from the basketball team due to allegations of an assault. 😲 I am not happy with this news!

  9. Praising the Lord that Ya’ll are safe and warm. May God kick you out of your comfort zone and allow you to see what He can do through you. Romans 10:14,15 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” Love Ya Ty!

Keep on loving the kids and people you come in contact with! I am reminded of a quote I heard one time from somebody (Al/Scott/Penny/Old Youth Pastor, I’m not entirely sure)

“Christ has no body now but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks compassion on this world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands through which he blesses all the world. Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, yours are the eyes, you are his body. Christ has no body now on earth but yours.”

    Love ya’ll

P.S. (Make sure that Al gets everyone to play the Hokey Pokey because that’s what it’s all about)

  20. I know those kids are loving having you there to help and play and show Christ’s’ love. It so reminds me of the mission trips I took to LaJoya, TX down in the valley during my youth. Can’t wait to hear more, and see more pics (with you in them, please!!) Love you more, Landon Cole. Love,Mom

  21. Dad researched Mole, and found that the beach where you are staying, is the beach where Christopher Columbus landed in 1492, when he thought he had found the new world. My great grandfather was named Christopher Columbus Bean. Bet ya didn’t know that!! As a descendant of (a/not the) Christopher Columbus, I hope you are making new discoveries of your own. Please know you are making me so proud by being there, showing others and sharing with others your gifts and your talents. Love you more, Mom

  22. Hey pals! Be safe, watching from a far. Work hard and don’t take for granted the time you get to be there. Much love to Brad, Hayden, Erika, Tyann, Al and co. Stay strong, keep your eyes open to see what God wants to show you, ears open to hear what he wants to tell you, and hearts open to what he wants to teach you. Have fun in Karnage definitely my favorite place!

  23. Roxie, Landon Sands’ Aunt:
Wow, you all are making memories of a lifetime. Stop and take it in. There is so much about living a life that honors Christ through observing other cultures – especially ones where things can be so much harder; yet, you see the joy they have – in the simplest of things. God is using you all for a mighty work! May God bless you and use you for his glory. Love you Landon! So proud of you! Aunt Roxie
