Texas Tech 2021 Day 2… Haitian Flag Day

Hey everyone!! Shy and Drew coming to you from the Mole.

As part of the group that slept in Port-Au-Prince last night (due to sudden change in travel plans), this morning our day was a bit different from the rest.

We woke up at 6am from possibly the best night of sleep ever, hopped in a tap-tap (truck), and then boarded a VERY small plane with all of our luggage (and there was ALOT)! As we ended our 50-minute flight to the Mole we began to land and almost hit a pack of goats.

When arriving to the Mole we found out that our amazing friends (who made it the previous night) waited to eat breakfast with us, I know sweet right!

Today was a holiday – Haitian Flag Day! It is celebrated the same way we celebrate the 4th of July. The campus kids put on an amazing performance with their traditional dances, singing, and a flag day march (pictures below).

After watching them, we ate lunch and the watched the kids play in a soccer tournament on campus. We then went to downtown to watch another program put on by the people from the town. From that point we went back to the Mole, ate dinner, did our devotional, and now it is time to shower and prepare for the next day.

Being engrossed in a culture that is so much different from ours has been interesting and fun all at the same time. Yes, we are very exhausted, but we are enjoying every minute of being able to share God’s word to everyone we possibly can.

God bless from a sunny and sweaty Haiti!

P.S: Gillian, DREW IS NOT SUN BURNT!!!!!!!!

Please feel free to leave comments! Comments will be read each night at dinner!

We did have more pictures to upload but the internet was too slow to finish up. **Also some of the files were large and we had to convert them to smaller ones. I have no idea why there is a bar going through half the pictures! Sorry about that. We will try to fix it before the next blog.
