Christmas Morning With Campus Kids…

In the early hours of Christmas morning, while most of us were still in the embrace of sleep, the children on campus were wide awake, filled with anticipation and excitement.

At 3am, they quickly made their way to the cafeteria, eager to see what Santa had brought for them. The sheer joy and genuine happiness on their faces were enough to warm even the coldest of hearts.

They had candy, cupcakes, juice, and a full breakfast-spread – which they thoroughly enjoyed while they watched hours and hours of movies.

We then brought them over to the church as the sun began to rise, so they could open their gifts beside the Christmas Tree.

As they unwrapped their modest presents, one gift, in particular, stood out—the humble pillow-pet. A seemingly ordinary item, perhaps even taken for granted in your part of the world, but for these children, it held immeasurable value. It wasn’t the latest gadget or a flashy toy; it was a simple, soft, animal-shaped pillow.

What struck me most was the gratitude and joy these children expressed for their backpacks, sheets, towels, blankets, etc. In a place where resources are scarce and luxuries are few, these little pillows were truly cherished.

As we begin the New Year, let us reflect on the profound impact we can have with even the smallest acts of kindness. While we may take for granted the things we have – for others, those very things could be the source of immeasurable joy. These children, with their authentic appreciation, reminded me that true joy often resides in the simplicity of heartfelt gestures.

I know for our family, those seemingly small gestures that are supporters do mean the world to us  – and serve as a continual reminder that God still sees us even in the hardest of times.

We would like to extend a special thanks to Tom Snivley and his church for purchasing these gifts for our campus kids!
