Eyes are Watching…

Eyes are Watching

This afternoon I as I went out to the children’s home I walk a road that there are guards and a gate. This gate slows down those heading out toward the beach or to the hotel that is being built. Sort of a check point as the  guards are there to help make sure moto’s and trucks are going where they say they are going and doing what they say they are doing. Each day I pass the same guards and try to open a little conversation with them. Thanking them for their work and for their help and encouraging. There have been days where I simply tell them “God Bless you.” Each time I have said this they act so surprised. Honestly I think they having been trying to see if we are who we say we are….”Christians.”

In 1 Corinthians 11:1 Paul says this “follow my example as I follow the example of Jesus Christ.” This has been one of my life verses for close to 15 years now. It reminds me of the children that I have been so blessed to work with. From the swimming pool to the classroom to the children’s home. Most of my life I have been surrounded by children and young people. There has always been little eyes watching me. Just as many of you have children of your own or like me children around you that watch every step you make and every word you say. I have had my days where I have not been the example God wants me to be and in those moments, where ugliness comes out ,the Lord gently reminds me who’s I am. In those moments He changes my own heart and humbles me so that I can speak into these children and youth. Many of these stories I have also been able to share with the ladies in our Bible Study. Oh for God’s grace and mercy!!!

Today as I walked back from loving and playing with the kiddo’s, an elderly man was walking near me. He looked tired, dusty, dirty and I could tell probably hungry as he had a belt around his waist. A belt that keeps him from being so hungry…it was tightened pretty tight. I said hello and asked him how he was. He replied…not so bad. As we approached the gate I greeted the guards with a huge smile and then I saw it. A dollar on the ground. I picked it up and immediately gave it to the elderly man. To see this little old man and the excitement he had. It looked as if he was young again. To the point of almost dancing. Now I know that will not buy him a whole lot, but when I said God bless you, sir. He said, “He has blessed me, so much!!” With a smile on his face and a spring in his step he continued on his way.

What do you think the guards saw in this? I believe they were quite surprised that I gave this coin to this elderly man. They stood there with their jaws dropped and silent. Again, me without my camera…LOL:>) I believe today these guards had the opportunity to see just a little bit how genuine and real we…as Christians….are. That we are here in this place to help and to come alongside them and show them Jesus.

Let me ask you…do others see Jesus in you? Have you made Him your example?

THERE ARE MORE THAN CHILDREN WATCHING NOW!!! Please pray that we will be the examples God has called us to be and that they will see Jesus in us and desire to know who it is that brings us here to their community.
