The internet hasn’t been working very well this past week. I’ve got 4 MORE blogs I still need to post! Here’s one from Week 4’s Game Night.
JUNE 23RD – THURSDAY WEEK 4 OF SUMMER GAMES
For the past 3 weeks, all of our campus residents have been competing in weekly competitions. The team with the most points at the end of the month – will get to attend a special 4th of July Party in our yard- complete with food, games, prizes, swimming, movies, and fireworks!
At 5:30pm, we set-up the basketball court in preparation for tonight’s water games! We had 10 different water-themed competitions!
At 6:50pm, we all met in the cafeteria – so Pierre & I could explain how to play each game.
***Though there are 20 members in each team…most games only require 3-10 people. Team captains were required to divide out their group equally – so that EACH person participated in at least 3 different games.
At 7:20pm, we were ready to play game 1.
At 9:30pm, we still had 5 games left. We took a vote to decide whether we wanted to keep going – or call it a night. EVERYONE wanted to keep going – especially the adults!
At 10:15pm, I finally concluded the night. There were still 3 more games left, but we were exhausted!
The best part of ANY activity we do, is watching everyone else laugh & fully engage. They ABSOLUTELY loved tonight!! I really think they could have kept going if I would have let them!
In fact, we had a crowd of people on the streets watching us through the chain-link fence – cheering for everyone!
BELOW ARE SOME PICTURES & A VIDEO FROM TONIGHT’S FUN-FILLED NIGHT!
PASS THE WATER
10 TEAM MEMBERS SAT IN CHAIRS DIRECTLY BEHIND EACH OTHER. THE FIRST PERSON DIPPED THEIR CUP IN THE BUCKET OF WATER AND THEN PASSED IT TO THE PERSON BEHIND THEM. THIS CONTINUES UNTIL YOU REACH THE LAST PERSON.
THE PERSON IN THE BACK OF THE LINE DUMPED THEIR WATER INTO AN EMPTY BUCKET. AT THE END OF 5 MINUTES, WE WEIGHED THE BUCKETS TO SEE WHICH TEAM HAD THE MOST WATER.
WE PLACED A SMALL SHOT GLASS INSIDE A BUCKET FULL OF WATER. TEAMS HAD TO DROP QUARTERS THROUGH THE BUCKET OF WATER – IN HOPES OF IT LANDING INSIDE THE LITTLE GLASS.
FILL BUT DON’T SPILL
IN THIS COMPETITION – WE FILLED A CONTAINER ALMOST TO THE RIM WITH WATER. THEN EACH TEAM HAD TO TRY AND ADD A FEW DROPS TO THAT CONTAINER – WITHOUT IT SPILLING ONTO THE TABLE!
***Whichever team spilled the water in each line – was deducted points. So if you were Team A and you spilled the water, I subtracted 10 points from the overall score for the night.
WRING IT OUT
10 TEAM MEMBERS COMPETED TOGETHER. THERE WAS A BUCKET FULL OF WATER ON ONE SIDE AND AN EMPTY BUCKET ON THE OTHER SIDE. THE FIRST PERSON DRENCHED A T-SHIRT IN THE BUCKET AND THEN PASSED IT DOWN THE LINE. THE LAST PERSON HAD TO WRING OUT AS MUCH WATER AS THEY COULD.
THEN THE LAST PERSON MUST RUN TO THE FRONT OF THE LINE AND DUNK THE SHIRT AGAIN. ONCE EVERYONE IN THE LINE HAS HAD A TURN BEING IN THE FRONT – THE GAME IS OVER.
WE WEIGHED THE BUCKETS TO SEE WHO HAD THE MOST WATER.
HEAD, SHOULDER, KNEES, & CUP
TEAMS WERE PLACED “HEAD TO HEAD” AGAINST EACH OTHER. THERE WAS A CUP OF WATER ON THE FLOOR BETWEEN THEM. WE CALLED OUT HEAD, SHOULDER, & KNEES SEVERAL TIMES. ONCE WE CALLED OUT CUP – THEY HAD TO BE THE FIRST ONE TO GRAB IT AND SPLASH IT ON THEIR OPPONENT.
SIT & SPLASH
IN THIS GAME, THERE WAS A 5-GALLON BUCKET THAT WAS NEARLY FULL OF WATER. TEAMS WERE TOLD TO RUN WITH A SMALLER BUCKET OF WATER WHICH THEY NEEDED TO MAKE THE WATER REACH THE RIM.
AFTER THEY ADDED THE WATER, THEY NEEDED TO SIT IN THE BUCKET AND CREATE A SPLASH. IF THEY DIDN’T HAVE ENOUGH WATER TO MAKE IT OVERFLOW, THEY HAD TO GO BACK TO THE STARTING LINE & FILL UP THEIR BUCKET AGAIN. OR – THEY COULD JUST TRY TO FLOP DOWN IN THE BUCKET WITH MORE FORCE – IN HOPES IT WOULD OVERFLOW.
SIT & STAND TALL
TEAMS WERE REQUIRED TO LAY DOWN FLAT WITH A CUP OF WATER ON THEIR HEADS. THEY MUST THEN GO FROM LAYING DOWN TO STANDING UP. EACH TEAM THEN DUMPED THEIR WATER INTO A BUCKET WHICH WAS WEIGHED AGAIN.
