Memorial Day Weekend In The Mole…

FRIDAY

As many of you know, a missionary couple was murdered this past Thursday when 2 different gangs attacked them right after they finished their youth group service. This tragedy has completely devastated all of the missionaries in Haiti as well as the Haitians who serve alongside them.

Here is an article that explains the details in case you haven’t heard: Young Missionaries Killed in Haiti

No matter where you live, when something terrible happens, you can’t help but hold your loved ones a little tighter and a little longer.

So, on Friday morning, we decided to bring all the kids on campus, including the staff children, over to our classroom for a 12-hour movie marathon from 7pm to 7am.

Malaya baked cookies, we made popcorn, and we handed out candy. It was so comforting to have all the kids just a few feet away from home, enjoying a fun night together, just being kids.

SATURDAY

Last week, we handed out Party Invites to the top 60 kids in Children’s Church who had earned the most points over the past three months. Points were earned by weekly attendance, knowing memory verses, inviting friends, and answering questions.

The weather had been awful, pouring rain most of the week. We weren’t sure if our big Beach Bash would happen. But thankfully, it didn’t rain at all on Friday or Saturday. So, at 3pm, all the children met on campus, and we walked to the beach together.

We played games with the girls while the boys swam, then switched. We also gave out sand toys for castle building.

We cranked up the music and had a dance party right before lighting the bonfire and roasting hotdogs! Each kid had two hotdogs with bread, chips, juice, and Malaya’s homemade cookies.

Afterward, we walked back to the mission campus. Before the party officially ended, we handed out bags of rice and beans. The kids were jumping up and down with excitement when they found out they were getting an extra reward!

It was an absolute blast and a VERY much-needed day filled with joy and silliness.

Here are some pictures from our fun-filled day!

SUNDAY

For the past 10 weeks, our youth have been gathering for two hours every Sunday to participate in Bible Trivia. The kids were divided into six teams of eight, competing weekly until the top two teams advanced to the finals. The finals took place during Sunday night’s church service, allowing all the adults to attend.

Teams received prizes, and each team had an MVP who was awarded a special gift. They also played games with some of the audience too. We wrapped up the night with Malaya’s cookies and juice.

It was a fantastic way to end the weekend! Below are a few pictures, although the lighting was not great so the photos aren’t super clear.
